Ingwe’s Nigerian import sinks Wazito at the death

Ojo Olaniyi scored a stoppage time goal to help AFC Leopards beat Wazito FC 2-1 an FKF Premier League match played at the Thika Sub-County Stadium on Sunday afternoon.Heading to the game, Wazito had lost their last four and were determined to bounce back while Leopards, were keen on building on last weekend’s comprehensive win over Kenya Police FC.Despite the win, Ingwe boss wasn’t too impressed by how his team played. “I am happy that we won the game but I did not enjoy it. The playing surface was horrible and we had to change our game plan. At halftime I had to make changes because we had so many technical players but I needed some speed and I am happy with the impact the subs had. Next Friday we will play good football because we will be in a good stadium, ” Leopards coach Patrick Aussems said.The first clear cut chance of the game went Wazito’s way in the fifth minute when James Kinyanjui on the right found Eric Otieno in the box with a pin-point cross, the striker’s connection however missed the target by a small margin.Leopards appeared to enjoy much of possession but Wazito in were dangerous on the break with Kinyanjui, Curtis Wekesa and Tyson Otieno leading the onslaught.Against the run of play, the hosts went ahead in the 17th minute through Kinyanjui who beat Levis Opiyo on Leopards goal with a great half volley. Three minutes later Opiyo denied Kinyanjui and Wekesa in quick succession with great saves. A defence splitting pass from deep in midfield set up John Makwata for an easy finish to restore parityThe hosts had a great chance to retake the lead in the 38th minute but another fantastic save from Opiyo denied Tyson Otieno from point-blank range. Both teams had chances to extend their tally in the first half but they failed to utilize them. The first stanza ended even.Second half Leopards made two switches before the restart. Washington Munene and Josphat Lopaga were introduced for Giovanni Lukhumwa and Eugene Mukangula. Ten minutes into the second half, Ingwe made a third change bringing in Nigerian Ojo Olaniyi for scorer Makwata while Wazito introduced Michael Owino in place of Eric Otieno.The best chance of the second half came in the 58th minute and it went Leopards’ way. Substitute Olaniyi controlled the ball well in area but with only the keeper to beat he fired over the bar much to the disappointment of the fans.Two minutes later Fidel Origa was denied by an ever-present Opiyo who parried his thunderous effort, Wekesa headed wide from another prime position. The keeper denied Wazito again in the 66th minute saving a Levin Odhiambo low freekick. Wazito keeper Bashir Ssekagya came to his team’s rescue in the 74th minute to deny Cliff Nyakeya who looked determined to score against his former employer. His low short was saved by the Ugandan keeper and moments later Peter Thiong’o hit the upright with his cross cum shot. Ojo would the miss another sitter in the 85th minute hitting the side net with an empty goal at his disposal.The Nigerian redeemed himself a minute from time with lovely header to win his side the game.Wazito FC Starting XI: 14.
