Tough test for Vihiga Queens in clash against Ulinzi Starlets

Three-time Women Premier League (WPL) champions Vihiga Queens host women’s cup and super cup champions Ulinzi Starlets, on Sunday, as the former look to complete a double against the soldiers. Vihiga Queens remain unbeaten in the top tier league and got their second leg off to a winning start last weekend in a 1-0 victory over Nakuru. Another weekend, more exciting action as the #FKFWPL continues this weekend. Gaspo went to second after a 4-1 win over Kayole Starlets on Saturday. Sunday’s match set for Mimias Sports complex has all the ingredients of a thriller. The first leg of the season ended 2-0 in favour of Vihiga Queens and coach Boniface Nyamunyamu is confident they have the depth to carry the day again. “We are looking to win all-out matches going forward as we chase an unbeaten title. Ulinzi are a tough side so we will not be complacent in our approach of the match,” said Nyamunyamu in an interview. 2021-2022 FKF Women Premier League Table Standings as at Tuesday, April 05, 2022.#VihigaQueens#LegacyMakers pic.twitter.com/4yEbgUj9Ql— Vihiga Queens FC (@Vihigaqueens) April 6, 2022 The squads in action in the second leg are notably different as Vihiga are missing the services of three key players in keeper Lilian Awuor and forwards Terry Engesha and Gentrix Shikangwa who have since signed pro deals. Likewise, Mwanza will miss the services of the experienced Lucy Mukhwana who was part of the first leg squad. The tactician will also have Belinda Achieng on the post as opposed to Valentine Kwaka who was the first choice keeper in the first leg match played in December last year. “This is a crucial match, a must-win for us. Maximum points will help is reduce the gap between Vihiga Queens and us to six points and renew hopes of winning the league. I must admit a win for Vihiga will almost be a confirmation for their title,” offered Mwanza adding that his players were ready and well aware what is at stake. The military side are also under pressure to maintain their second place, having been pipped for second by Gaspo in their Saturday win. Meanwhile, holders Thika Queens host their first-leg tormentors Bunyore Starlets at Thika Stadium from 1 pm as the visitors attempt an ambitious target of completing the double against the champions. The third match of the day has Transnzoia Falcons hosting Kangemi Ladies in Kitale.
