Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala says he wants to make the people of Kakamega proud by leading the team to its first-ever league title this season. The Kakamega County based team currently tops the FKF Premier League with 53 points after 25 rounds of league matches. With nine games to go, the team boasts of a ten-point buffer at the top of the log and unless something out of the ordinary happens, they are destined to lift the title in what has been a troubled season of football with Kenya currently suspended by FIFA.Mwalala’s charges have lost just two games all season, one at home to Talanta and an away game against Bandari in Mombasa and everything appears to be conspiring to hand them the title as challengers like KCB, City Stars, Tusker and Gor Mahia drop points along the way.On Sunday, Homeboyz played out to a one-all draw with Sofapaka at the Kasarani Annex and in his post-match interview, the tactician spoke of his desire to take the league title away from Nairobi. He however warned that they are not yet there as they have more nine more matches to go.Full Time:A point away from home Sofapaka 1-1 HomeboyzOkoth ’12 pic.twitter.com/nNL9wqEVUn— Kakamega Homeboyz FC (@FcHomeboyz) April 10, 2022 “Still, I believe we have an opportunity to make the people of Kakamega proud by taking the title away from the dominant Nairobi sides. It’s now upon us to push ourselves further. It’s not the time to start celebrating because we still have a considerable number of matches to play before the end of the season,” he stated. He further admitted that his team is feeling pressure at the helm of the log.“I’m happy with today’s performance. But we must work hard to ease off the pressure that we are feeling at the top with Tusker closing in on us,” he added.Homeboyz will host Sofapaka on Saturday 16th at Bukhungu Stadium for the return leg.
