Gaspo host Thika with second-place at stake

Their first leg encounter ended with a massive loss for Gaspo Women, but the side is keen to exert revenge against nemesis Thika Queens in the repeat match set for Saturday 15 April at Stima Club from noon. It is a Kiambu derby and in top of the bragging rights, both sides are looking to own the number two position at the Women Premier League (WPL) log. Gaspo are currently second at 28 points, two more than Ulinzi Starlets and Thika Queens, the latter holding fourth place by virtue of an inferior goal difference. Action continues in the #FKFWPL this weekend. We are coming off a win at home when we faced Bunyore and we are carrying the same momentum to the Gaspo match. Easy pickings for Thika Queens #WPL https://t.co/EhdYeieQZB— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) April 10, 2022 This rivalry goes way back and, despite winning the first match, we recognise that playing Gaspo is never a walk in the park so there will be no complacency on our part. We will fight for maximum points,” offered Thika Queens’ team manager Granton Mganga. In the other match of the day, Kangemi Ladies host Kisumu All Starlets in a relegation battle. The former, bottom-placed in the 12-team league, are chasing their second league victory in 14 matches as they attempt to salvage their season. Kisumu, on their part, have won three for nine points but are still in the red zone with Kayole Starlets the only side between them and bottom- of-the-table Kangemi. Victory for the visiting Kisumu puts them in ninth place, albeit overnight, at 12 points as they wait for the outcome of the march between Ulinzi and Wadadia as the latter are currently ninth at 11 points. Kangemi, despite being bottom, boast of one of the most lethal strikers in current top striker in the league Fasila Odhiambo. The division one Most Valuable Player (MVP) has bagged 11 goals, two more than Vihiga Queens’ Terry Engesha who left for a pro deal having netted nine goals. SaturdayGaspo Women vs Thika Queens (Stima Club- 12pm) Kangemi Ladies vs Kisumu All Starlets (Stima Club- 3pm)
