With two matches of today’s Premier League program postponed due to FA Cup clashes, the Sunday afternoon stage in the English top tier was set for Newcastle and Leicester, as well as West Ham and Burnley. Even though there were no ‘big names’ on the schedule, the action on the two grounds wasn’t lacking. On Easter Sunday, Bruno Guimarães scored a last-minute winner to collect all three points for Newcastle United against Leicester City. The home team came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory, thus extending Eddie Howe’s side’s imperious home form – the Magpies are now unbeaten in seven league outings at St James’ Park.Elsewhere, Tomáš Souček’s second-half goal canceled out Wout Weghorst’s opener at London Stadium. West Ham United left Burnley three points adrift of survival with a 1-1 draw in Michael Jackson’s first game in charge of the Clarets.Let’s go back to the north of England. After booking their first-ever European semi-final Leicester City were high on adrenaline and they got off to an excellent start as Ademola Lookman buried his first-time finish from a perfect corner routine despite Martin Dúbravka almost bodying it away. The visitors were on the front foot but that did not bother the hosts. Ten minutes before the halftime break, a defensive mishap from the Foxes was converted by Bruno Guimarães who knocked the ball between Kasper Schmeichel’s legs into the net to stir the home crowd alive.Early after the restart, a flurry of shots by Allan Saint-Maximin indicated Newcastle’s intentions but Brendan Rodgers’ outfit never looked in much of a danger. But they weren’t dangerous either – Leicester won just one of their last nine league trips. With the final blow yet to come, the guests let down their guard and the Toons took advantage. A last-minute thrust on the left flank via counter-attack allowed Guimarães to dive in to send St James’ Park into ecstasy. After a dismal start to the season and despite not being mathematically safe, Newcastle will continue to seek a first top-half finish since 2017/18. Leicester were defeated for the first time in six matches in all competitions. The London Stadium saw no winner but did it was far from peaceful at the Olympic venue. West Ham side were fresh off the back of reaching their first European semi-final in 46 years and Burnley were without Sean Dyche in the dugout for the first time in 10 years. The hosts came closest to an opening goal in the early stages when Jarrod Bowen picked up a loose second ball from an initial corner before being denied by Nick Pope’s superb diving save. As Burnley were pinned back in their own half, the West Ham pressure continued but the focus of the match turned everyone’s eyes to Ashley Westwood’s serious injury.Terrible moment today at London Stadium May Westwood get back into the game soon. pic.twitter.com/FBL5ZiSMjl— 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹⁷ 🇧🇼💎 (@Angelinhojr) April 17, 2022 It wasn’t easy for the players around to digest what happened to Westwood but the break in play, caused by the unfortunate circumstances, turned out to be exactly what the relegation fighters needed. After Jay Rodriguez’s initial header slammed off the crossbar in the 33rd-minute – Weghorst headed home his second Premier League goal to give Burnley the lead. The momentum of the game then flipped on its head and it all led to an opportunity for the visitors to double their lead. Maxwel Cornet sprinted in behind and Łukasz Fabiański swept the winger’s feet away. Unfortunately for the Burnley’s Ivorian, Cornet was painfully inaccurate and the ball went wide.West Ham had a difficult task in the second half given the fact that they failed to score in five of their last eight league games against Burnley. Michail Antonio spurned two headed chances, Declan Rice also glanced wide when connecting with Aaron Cresswell’s free-kick. The hosts continued to pile on the pressure and in the 74th minute they got their reward courtesy of Souček. The Czech chested home Manuel Lanzini’s set-piece to level the score. With three points crucial to their ambitions at the opposite ends of the table, both sides went in pursuit of a winning goal. However, neither side could find the back of the net, mostly thanks to Nick Pope’s heroics. The draw leaves West Ham seventh – two points adrift of the top six having played two games more than 6th-placed Arsenal. Meanwhile, struggling Burnley lingering in 18th.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 33SaturdayTottenham – Brighton 0-1 (0-0)/Trossard 90+1/Man.Utd. – Norwich 3-2 (2-1)/Ronaldo 7, 32, 76 – Dowell 45+1, Pukki 52/Southampton – Arsenal 1-0 (1-0)/Bednarek 44/Watford – Brentford 1-2 (0-1)/Dennis 54 – Norgaard 15, Jannson 90+6/SundayNewcastle – Leicester 2-1 (1-1)/Guimaraes 30, 95 – Lookman 19/West Ham – Burnley 1-1 (0-1)/Soucek 74 – Weghorst 33/***odds are subject to change
