Victor Wanyama featured full minutes for CF Montréal on Saturday night as they registered a third win in a row after piping Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 at their Stade Saputo backyard.After what was a difficult start to the new season, Montréal had picked two away wins in a row over FC Cincinnati and New York Red Bulls and wanted to make it three for the season when they hosted Vancouver. Wanyama, who continues to skipper the team featured in the entire breath-taking game.American attacking midfielder Djordje Mihailovic got the ball rolling inside the first minute when he fired home after being picked by Alistair Johnston inside the area and with only the keeper to beat, he did the needful for the hosts’ dream start.Montreal continued to attack after that positive start in search of an equalizer and had a couple of chances to extend their lead in the first stanza while Vancouver had some rare half-chances which they equally failed to take. Montreal’s comfort was however cut short in the 65th minute when Brian White reduced the deficit for the visitors to set the stage for a tense finish in the game.Tosaint Ricketts thought he had earned Whitecaps a point in stoppage time with a looping header but after a VAR check the goal was disallowed as the veteran was ruled to have been in an offside position before the delicious cross was delivered into the area.The win lifts Montreal to sixth in the table with ten points after seven rounds of league matches. Next for them is an away game against Philadelphia Union on Saturday 23rd April.
