We trained once all week, Kamau lifts lid on Mathare United’s struggles

Mathare United head coach John Kamau has lifted the lid on the team’s worsening financial situation after they suffered yet another defeat on Saturday in the hands of Vihiga Bullets at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. The defeat sees them trail 17th-placed Bullets by eight points with eight matches left before the current FKF Premier League campaign comes to a close. Many argue that only a miracle will save the Slum Boys, who in the last campaign survived the drop by a whisker. On Saturday, a dominant Bullets display was rewarded with two second-half goals from Jessy Kajuba and Philip Muchuma. The newbies, in the process completed a double over the Kamau led 2008 league champions.Just like most teams in the league, Mathare are struggling financially and have not paid their players for a couple of months and after the latest defeat, the tactician gave an insight into the team’s struggles. He says the situation is so bad that they only trained once all week heading to the game against the Juma Abdallah-led outfit.FT: Vihiga Bullets 2-0 Mathare United #BulletsVsMathare pic.twitter.com/6QPtzfKYca— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) April 16, 2022 “I can say it (the defeat( is disappointing but again having trained just once all week then we were bound to struggle in this game. But I am happy with the boys because they understand the situation, I think only a person inside our camp can understand what we’re going through, things are not easy,” the former Harambee Stars assistant coach stated. He further lauded the players for showing up for the game despite the lack of motivation.“All said I am happy with the players’ input because we are going through a very tough time but they are trying to give their best under very difficult conditions,” he added.Next for Mathare is a home match against Bandari FC on Sunday 24th April.
