Hopeless Zico gives up on title, eyes strong finish nonetheless

KCB head coach Zedekiah Otieno appears to have given up on winning the title after Sunday’s defeat to Kariobangi Sharks by stating that they are focused on finishing in a ‘respectable’ position in the FKF Premier League (FKF-PL) this season.A brace from Felix Oluoch who was making a comeback from injury helped Sharks pick a win this time round after throwing a 2-0 lead in the first leg a week ago to settle for a two-all draw against the Bankers. The result also lifted William Muluya’s charges to fifth in the table with 41 points while the Bankers, with 39 dropped to 8th.Early in the season, the Bankers were touted as one of the league favorites this season as they had pushed Tusker all the way to the final day last season before narrowly losing the league title to the Brewers. This season however has been a slightly tough one with consistency as their main Achilles heel.⏹️ Full TimeStarman @FelixOluoch_ banks us maximum points.#WeAreSharks #BetwaySharks pic.twitter.com/tUCXHLLfsX— Kariobangi Sharks FC (@k_sharksfc) April 17, 2022 Following Sunday’s defeat, the gap between KCB and league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz increased to 15 points and with just eight games left before the season comes to a close, it will take some special miracle for the Bankers to leapfrog the teams above them and lift the title. In his post-match interview, Otieno appeared to throw in the towel saying the focus is now on finishing the season strongly. He said they hope to collect maximum points in the remaining matches of the season in order to finish in a good position.“I wouldn’t want to discuss our chances at the title. I would prefer we still take one game at a time and ensure we collect maximum points from our remaining fixtures to ensure we secure a respectable finish at the end of the season,” he said.Next for the Bankers is a match against Gor Mahia on Saturday 23rd in Thika.
