Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala has warned his charges that the final matches of the 2021/22 season and wants them to remain focused until they clinch this season’s league title; their first in the history of the club.With eight matches to go, Mwalala’s side leads the log with 54 points, eight more than 12-time winners, and defending champions Tusker FC. On paper, they remain favorites to lift the title but back-to-back draws against Sofapaka showed they can be vulnerable.On Sunday, Hansel Ochieng’s penalty miss 14 minutes from time saw Homeboyz salvage a point in a one-all draw against Batoto ba Mungu. Lawrence Juma had scored from the spot in the 21st minute before David Okoth drew party with a stunning free-kick three minutes from halftime. He says they cannot afford to underestimate any side and wants his team to approach each game with the seriousness it deserves. He is however positive that they have control of their destiny.”During this final stretch of the league, games are always very difficult. You should, therefore, never underestimate any team because everyone wants to end the season strongly. At the moment, we are taking each match at a time and we believe we are in control of our own destiny,” he told the Star.Next for homeboyz is an away game against Keya Police on Sunday 24th in Nairobi and Mwalala says they are going to approach the remaining duels a game at a time.“We are going back to the drawing board to see how best we can approach each of the remaining eight matches,” he added.
