AFCON 2023: Harambee Stars to kick off qualifying campaign away to Cameroon

Harambee Stars will start their AFCON 2023 qualifying campaign against Cameroon on the road on Match Day 1 of the qualifiers according to the qualifying fixtures released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).Kenyan has been pooled in Group C alongside five-time winners of the continental showpiece Cameroon, Namibia, and Burundi for the qualifiers of the 2023 edition that kicks off in June.However, Kenya’s participation in the qualifiers is pegged on the country having the suspension by FIFA suspended two weeks before the first matchday, in this case by mid-May.🔢 = ✅Here are the full #TotalEnergiesAFCONQ2023 groups 👇Who will reach the final tournament? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/SpWgkqt9TE— CAF (@CAF_Online) April 19, 2022 Kenya has been suspended since February following the decision by the government to disband the federation in November and install a Caretaker Committee led by retired judge Aaron Ringera and FIFA wants the disbanded federation reinstated for the suspension to be lifted.The away match will then be followed by back-to-back home matches against Namibia and Burundi in Mathc Day 2 and Match Day 3 in that order to complete the first leg of the encounters.For the second leg, Kenya plays Burundi away on Match Day 4, then host Cameroon on Match Day 5 and finish off their qualifying campaign with Namibia on Match Day 6.BREAKING: Harambee Stars to face Cameroon in AFCON qualifiersMatch Days 1 and 2 will be played during the June international window, with the next two Match Days falling in the September window, and eventually the last two in March next year.Harambee Stars last featured at the showpiece in 2019 in Egypt and missed out on the 2021 edition that was staged in January 2022 in Cameroon.
