The Lancashire side, still searching for their new manager, almost fell behind in the 6th minute when Oriol Romeu’s free header inside the box whistled just inches past the post. Burnley initially appeared nervous due to the magnitude of the occasion, but those feelings were soon put to bed when they took the lead in the 12th minute, as right-back Connor Roberts curled in an exquisite left-footed strike from the edge of the box, scoring his first goal for the club. The breakthrough immediately provided the home side with an injection of confidence, and they almost doubled their tally just moments later, but Wout Weghorst and Jay Rodriguez were unable to beat Fraser Forster. Burnley continued to take the game to the Saints, and it resulted in Weghorst connecting with a powerful headed chance inside the six-yard box, but the Dutchman’s effort agonisingly clattered against the post. The Clarets were playing with a new-found freedom, and they made their pressure count by doubling their advantage on the stroke of halftime, when Nathan Collins planted his header into the back of the net.Ralph Hasenhüttl’s team needed to find a spark to drag their feet back into the fixture following a downcast first 45 minutes. The hosts’ didn’t let up though, as they showcased some expressive football and displayed a high level of tenacity that had been missing in recent weeks. Following a static opening to the second half, Jack Cork bundled the ball over the line in the 63rd minute, but following a VAR check, the goal was ruled out for offside. The Saints introduced Nathan Redmond and Ché Adams for the final twenty minutes, and the duo instantly rejuvenated the visitors. James Ward-Prowse aimed a free-kick over the Burnley wall to force Pope into a save, before Adams believed he’d fired in, only for Charlie Taylor to make a marvelous last-ditch block. Although taking the handbrake off throughout much of the second half, the Clarets rallied to secure back-to-back home Premier League victories for the first time since December 2020.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUERearranged matchesTuesdayLiverpool – Man.Utd 4-0 (2-0)/Diaz 5, Salah 22, 85, Mane 68/WednesdayEverton – Leicester 1-1 (0-1)/Richarlison 90+3 – Barnes 5/Chelsea – Arsenal 2-4 (2-2)/Werner 17, Azpilicueta 32 – Nketiah 13, 57, Smith Rowe 27, Saka 90+2 pen/Newcastle – Crystal Palace 1-0 (1-0)/Almiron 33/Man.City – Brighton 3-0 (2-0)/Mahrez 53, Foden 66, Silva 82/ThursdayBurnley – Southampton 2-0 (2-0)/Roberts 12, Collins 44/
