For the very first time in history, the fierce Mashemeji Derby pitting record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia against their perennial opponents AFC Leopards could be played at the newly built Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu County.According to the club’s top honchos, plans of staging the match that is scheduled for 8 May 2022 at the 30,000 facility are already underway and what is remaining is only clearance from the government installed Football Kenya Federation Caretaker Committee.“The club officials have made the decision that we should take the game to Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu. The club is currently serving a ban on hosting its matches in Nairobi and since this is the biggest game of the season, we have brought it to Kisumu where the club enjoys fanatical support so that they can also feel part of the team.
