Full minutes for Joash Onyango as Simba and Yanga play share spoils

Yanga SC and Simba SC played to a barren draw in the Kariakoo Derby at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Saturday afternoon, their second barren draw of the campaign having produced a similar result in December last year during the first leg encounter.Kenyan international Joash Onyango featured full minutes at the heart of Simba’s backline and put up a solid performance, one that perhaps would have the club rethinking his future.𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘⏱Young Africans SC 0-0 Simba SCMtani una bahati sana… Kipigo chako utakikuta #asfc #timuyawananchi #daimambelenyumamwiko pic.twitter.com/qv4Q4PnvXe— Young Africans SC (@yangasc1935) April 30, 2022 The former Gor Mahia FC defender has been linked with a move away from the club upon the expiry of his contract with the Didier Gomes Da Rosa coached side in August. Before the match, a moment of silence was observed at the stadium in honor of the late former President of Kenya Mwai Kibaki, with another stoppage in the second half to allow players currently fasting to break their fast.Yanga started the match strongly with Fiston Mayele coming close twice after swift counter attacks but Simba defender Henock Inonga expertedly averted the danger.Simba settled into the match with Ghanian Bernard Morrison particularly thriving on the free role. He seemed like man on a mission to put his former side Yanga to the sword. He was carded just before the half hour mark following an altercation with Yanga keeper Djigui Diarra.  Kayci Odhiambo: From humble beginnings in Makadara to impressing at IngweJoash Onyango was called to action on 39 minutes, sprinting to challenge Enock Inunga who was clear and about to pull the trigger in the box. After the breather, Simba brought in Rally Bwalya for the ineffective Cleotus Chama and they now seemed more settled at the middle of the pack. Ugandan International Khalid Aucho was yellow carded on 48 minutes for a dangerous foul on Yanga’s Sadio Kanoute. The jaded Morrison was rested just before the hour mark, Kibu Denis taking his place. Both teams made more changes but just couldn’t find the back of the net. The result means that Simba are winless in the derby since 2019 when they last beat Yanga by a solitary goal courtesy of former K’Ogalo forward Meddie Kagere, with Yanga winning two of the six encounters since then and the rest ending in draws.Sare ya bila kufungana. #KariakooDerby #NBCPremierLeague #NguvuMoja pic.twitter.com/z6EXLvseNY— Simba Sports Club (@SimbaSCTanzania) April 30, 2022 Yanga are unbeaten in the 21 matches that they have played in the league this season and continue to top the league standings with 55 points while Simba come second with 42 although they have played a game less.
