Unconvincing Juve are just one point away from securing the Champions League

Leonardo Bonucci netted twice on a birthday to remember, as Juventus were made to work for three points against relegation-threatened Venezia, while maintaining their 100% home record against the Winged Lions.Chasing their 11th consecutive Champions League group stage appearance, the Old Lady smothered Venezia from the off, peppering the visitors’ goal in a frantic opening five minutes. Despite the abundance of creativity in their ranks, Juventus’ opener came in an agricultural fashion, with Matthijs de Ligt flicking the ball on for centre-back partner Bonucci to head home.Having lost their previous eight games in Serie A, it looked as if the away side could be in for a long afternoon, and a driven Fabio Miretti strike from inside the box came within inches of giving Juventus a two-goal lead. With fans’ favourite Paolo Zanetti having been sacked in the week, little was expected of Venezia at the Allianz Stadium, yet a glanced Thomas Henry header almost drew the visitors level before the break.Following a first 45 minutes that didn’t continue in the trajectory Juventus would’ve hoped for, the hosts were left with work to do after the break and immediately began searching for a second goal. Instead, it would be the Winged Lions who found the net themselves, when Mattia Aramu stunned the Allianz Stadium with a wicked left-footed half-volley from 25-yards out to fire Venezia level.Back level, Venezia were beginning to dream of a first-ever point away to the ‘Old Lady’, yet amongst the hysteria, an old foe returned to inflict a nightmarish ending. Sweeping home Danilo’s flick-on, a clinical Bonucci provided the final touch for another attritional Juventus goal. The result leaves the visitors rooted to the bottom of the table, with the Winged Lions starting to sink and the banks about to burst on Venezia’s time in the top flight.SERIE ASaturdayCagliari – Verona 1-2 (0-2)/Joao Pedro 57 – Barak 8, Caprari 44/Napoli – Sassuolo 6-1 (4-0)/Koulibaly 7, Osimhen 15, Lozano 19, Mertens 21, 54, Rrahmani 80 – Lopez 87/Sampdoria – Genova 1-0 (1-0)/Sabiri 25/Spezia – Lazio 3-4 (2-1)/Amian 9, Agudelo 35, Hristov 56 – Immobile 33 pen, Provedel 54 og, Milinkovic-Savic 68, Acerbi 90/SundayJuventus – Venezia 2-1 (1-0)/Bonucci 7, 76 – Aramu 71/16.00: (1.71) Milan (3.80) Fiorentina (5.90)16.00: (2.85) Empoli (3.30) Torino (2.70)19.00: (6.00) Udinese (4.00) Inter (1.60)21.45: (1.53) Roma (4.30) Bologna (7.00)Monday21.45: (1.33) Atalanta (6.25) Salernitana (10.0)***odds are subject to change
