Uganda Crested coach George Lutalo says his team will be in Morocco to contest for the Women Africa Cup of Nations title despite being among the underdogs at the tournament.Crested, who secured their place at AWCON after Kenya pulled out of the competition have been pooled in group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso and Senegal in what many view as a difficult group for the East African side. Their first match of the tournament will be against Senegal. With the tournament two months away, Crested have began preparations for the biannual competition and Lutalo admits that they are in a difficult but playable group.”To be honest it is seemingly a hard group but playable. We shall prepare well but it is important to note that our players have the ability to mount a formidable challenge to make it to the knockout rounds. We are not just going to make numbers but to compete” Lutalo told FUFA media. He added that being the lowest ranked team in the group will play to his team’s advantage as it will take the pressure off his players.”Looking at the rankings, people would think we are going to be a push over which I promise won’t be the case. It will take the pressure off the players which gives us room to play our game. It is the first time for this group of players to play at this level. I am tuning the team to show the highest levels of desire and competence, ” he added. The #TotalEnergiesWAFCON2022 𝙂𝙍𝙊𝙐𝙋𝙎 announced! 🚨#EmpowerOurGame pic.twitter.com/XhAbwP5FK1— #EmpoweringOurGame (@CAFwomen) April 29, 2022 He further believes that the tournament will be a big chance for the players and the team to showcase their talents at the highest continental level.” We will work our socks off because we have waited for this opportunity for a long time.
