Mwalala: All teams have own unique difficulties

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala remains confident despite the recent title blow that has seen his team’s lead at the top of the log cut to just four points.Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Wazito FC saw Tusker reduce the gap between the two teams to just four points with six matches left before the season concludes. A few weeks ago, Mwalala’s charges had a 12-point buffer but a slump that includes four draws in a row has resulted in the advantage vanishing.Despite what looks like imminent collapse, the youthful tactician remains positive. He opines that all teams across the globe experience difficulties but rues that his side’s had come at the tail end of the season.“Every team experiences that rough patch, it is just that ours has come at the wrong time, towards the end of the season. Tusker, for example, had three draws before their current winning streak, KCBwho were last season’s runners up are struggling, Gor Mahia, record league champions are not having it easy either. All the teams that are occupying the top positions have had difficult spells, it’s football and it happens globally,” he told Mozzart Sport. The tactician remained full of praise for his players for what they have achieved so far this season and called on the fans to rally behind the team in the remaining matches of the campaign.Full Time:Kakamega Homeboyz 1-1 WazitoSunday Mutuku ’50 pic.twitter.com/9P9ATb0Ipr— Kakamega Homeboyz FC (@FcHomeboyz) May 1, 2022 “What these boys have done so far is commendable. We do not have any superstars in this team, it is just a group of hardworking players determined to write history by becoming the first group to lead Homeboyz to the title. Erick Ambunya (with Tusker) is the only player who has won a league title, the rest are new in this and we have to appreciate the work that they have put in so far, it is not easy and they have tried and we should keep encouraging them to the end instead of throwing unnecessary criticism,” he added. The tactician remains defiant that they can turn their season around and bag the league title but wants his side to be more clinical in the remaining matches of the campaign.“It is still under our control and it is just a matter of us returning to winning ways as soon as possible. We have to learn to kill off games as soon as possible. In all the four games that we have dropped points, we’ve had endless goal-scoring chances which we fail to take, and in the end, we get punished. My players need to understand that we need to bury those chances and if possible put games beyond the opponent’s reach in the first half,” he concluded.Next for Homeboyz is an away match against Tusker FC on Saturday 7 May. The game will be staged at the Ruaraka Grounds.
