Anxiety is heightening ahead of the famed Mashemeji Derby as league organizers FKF Caretaker Committee and host club Gor Mahia display disorganization of near criminal levels.Three days to the highly anticipated fixture the venue is still unknown and ticketing information is equally lacking. The game was unintelligently penciled for a venue long earmarked to host Africities Summit in Kisumu County. It only dawned on both Gor Mahia and the FKF Caretaker Committee late in the day that their plan to stage the derby in Kisumu was doomed to fail.Good afternoon @lindahoguttuDo you and @FKFcaretaker know that there is a plan to cause violence in the #MashemejiDerby this weekend in Kisumu?Well,I have given you vital info.Whatever it is talk to SSMB to allow Gor play at Nyayo.Ignore this at your own risk pic.twitter.com/MENO2UsBCd— Duncan O. O. Nyang KE 🇰🇪 (@Nyang__KE) May 3, 2022 There are suggestions that the game will now be staged at Kasarani stadium but Gor Mahia are unwelcome in all Sports Kenya owned facilities for past sins that are yet to be forgiven.Their last infraction was during an ill-fated clash against Vihiga Bullets on 13th February 2022 when fans invaded the pitch and engaged club stewards in fisticuffs after one fan was critically injured by Gor Mahia’s megalomaniac security. The fixture was consequently abandoned before the start of second half as Vihiga Bullets left in a huff fearing for their safety. Attempts to award Bullets points from the abandoned game fell flat after K’Ogalo lodged an appeal at Sports Disputes Tribunal which is yet to render judgement. The much-awaited Mashemeji Derby set for Sunday 8 will not be played in Kisumu. The match was initially set to be staged at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex. Gor who are banned from using both Nyayo and Kasarani Stadia will have to source for a new venue.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/n9k6jXinzr— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) May 3, 2022 Now the derby is facing a possible deferral to a later date. Gor Mahia have a few hours to reconcile with Sports Kenya and get the greenlights to grace another one of their facilities for the fixture to proceed in Nairobi this weekend.Alternatively, the fixture can be halted until after the Africities Summit in Kisumu. This will however, spark protests left, right and center. With just seven days until the FKF caretaker Committee’s mandate to manage football expires it surely is not getting easier. As for the biggest football rivalry in the country the ever psyched up fans will have to wait for information from authorities to find out details on the game.
