Having signed a short-term deal with former Zambian Super League champions, Kenyan international Vincent Oburu looks set to extend his contract after impressing head coach Numba Mumamba.Oburu joined the Ndola-based side in the January transfer window from Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) strugglers Wazito FC with his deal set to expire in June 2022.Oburu ruled out of Cup quarter final with injuryThe former AFC Leopards midfielder has however missed a huge chunk of Zesco’s games after suffering an injury but got his life at the club off to a perfect start after scoring in his debut against Nkana FC.Mumamba provided a transfer update ahead of the off-season window as he revealed that Oburu could still offer more for the club after impressing in the limited games he has featured in.“We will be in the market largely with high hopes of reinforcing the striking department and potentially our defense. The striking force is something we are very much concerned about.Winston Kalengo will be retiring, and his focus will primarily be on getting his coaching badges. Oburu is in our plans because he did very well in the few games he featured before getting an injury,” said Mumamba.Oburu was signed to replace former Kenyan international Jesse Were who made the switch to Kansanshi Dynamos in the January transfer window.Zesco United provides injury update on OburuHaving already lost the title to Red Arrows, Mumamba is looking to build a formidable team that will be able to challenge in the CAF Champions League.“We need to assemble a strong team that can withstand continental competition and get us to the group stage. This should be our primary target,” added Mumamba.
