Sports Ministry to give way forward on Kenyan football on Thursday

Sports Cabinet Amina Mohammed says the ministry will provide a clear roadmap on the future of Kenyan football on Thursday 12 May after the mandate of the FKF Caretaker Committee came to an end on Tuesday.The six-month mandate of the committee came to a close on Tuesday. The committee came into place on 11th November 2021 when Amina opted to disband the Nick Mwendwa led Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and installed a committee to run football activities in the country for six months, hold elections and hand over to the new office.FKF Caretaker Committee’s recommendations as they exitThe committee however failed to hold elections and while receiving the report from the committee on Tuesday, Amina said that they will have a clear roadmap on the way forward on Thursday after consultations with president Uhuru Kenyatta.The FKF Caretaker Committee has recommended that the current FKF Constitution be amended.These are some of the changes they want made.What are your thoughts?#KEFootball pic.twitter.com/xe6Fga9Cxs— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) May 10, 2022 “We shall provide a clear road map on Thursday on how we shall move on after meeting with the President and football stakeholders,” she stated.She reiterated her desire to streamline football operations in the country so that Kenyan teams can deliver at the national level.“We love this game too much to let it continue as it is, we must usher in a new era, an era of patriotism more than anything else. Seeing your team play at the national level is an act of patriotism and loving your country and it is for that reason that we could not sit back and watch things go downhill,” she said.“From the turn out during the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday, it is clear that we all love football dearly and that all of us without exception are in support of its growth and development and I do not believe anything else will make Kenyans happier than to see their local leagues managed professionally and well and our national teams shinning on the world stage. To achieve this, we need to first put our own house in order, if our house is not in order we will not achieve that”.Sports CS Amina Mohammed accompanied by PS Joe Okudo have received FKF Caretaker Committee’s report.The Committee’s six-month mandate has come to an end.#KEFootball pic.twitter.com/wlj6skC87s— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) May 10, 2022 She further called on all sports federations to streamline the management and promote transparency and accountability.“Looking at the success of the normalization committee of cricket, I am confident that there is hope for Kenyan sports sector to grow, if sports federation streamline their operations, if they promote accountability and transparency, they end corruption within their ranks and if they show compliance with the rule of law,” he added.FKF challenged their ejection from football operations and their consequent formation of the Caretaker Committee in court and the final ruling is set to be delivered this afternoon.
