Rugged Kenyan international defender agrees to new deal in Tanzania

Harambee Stars defender Joash Onyango has reportedly ended speculation over his future at Simba SC by inking a new deal that will keep him at the Dar-based club until July 2024.Onyango’s future at Simba has been a subject of media discussions with reports indicating that he could walk out of the club when his current deal expires in July. The central defender joined Wekundu wa Msimbazi in mid-2020 from Gor Mahia on the Bosman and quickly established himself as a dependable player for the Tanzanian giants.In the past few months, he has been linked with several clubs with reports indicating that he had failed to agree on a new deal with the defending league champions. Some of the clubs that he had been linked with a switch to include Simba’s arch-rivals Yanga and Azam FC, both of Tanzania. This is a welcome boost for coach Pablo Franco who considers the defender a key component of his project.Onyango, a full Kenyan international, started his pro career at the now-defunct West Kenya Sugar FC before crossing over to another defunct team, Western Stima. It is at Western Stima that he got the proper breakthrough that earned him a move to Gor Mahia before he eventually moved to Tanzania two years.
