Kane brace, a penalty and a red card: Gunners defeated but remain in the Champions League spot

Whoever thinks that there are no good news after Arsenal’s 3-0 thrashing from their arch rivals Tottenhem (3-0) is wrong. After their first loss to Spurs by three goals or more since 1960, the Gunners are still the creators of their destiny. After tonight’s heavy loss, Arsenal is still in the fourth spot which leads to the Champions League and in the two remaining games all they need to do is win. Two remaining teams? Newcastle and Everton. And that’s all the good news from tonight’s game. Everything else was terrible. Arsenal lost 3-0, they made a penalty and a red card and allowed their fiercest rival Tottenham to get too close – to only one point.Heung-min Son in the Premier League:21 goals Zero penalties pic.twitter.com/xhlNNYOq8A— B/R Football (@brfootball) May 12, 2022 It was another brilliant game for Spurs duo Kane – Son who scored all three goals and caused all sorts of problems for Arsenal defense. Rob Holding just couldn’t keep up with the South Korean and showed a devastating display in tonight’s game. If by any chance Arsenal fails to reach the Champions League in the end, Holding will be blamed, even thou the Gunners had plenty of games during the season in which they lost instead of winning. Arteta’s men are too unstable this season, and couldn’t keep a winning streak for too long. They still have a chance to finish fourth, since they have a brilliant record against Newcastle and Everton are in relegation battle. On the other side are Tottenham, who are facing Burnley and Norwich, so the Gunners should not expect any ‘favors’ from the Spurs.   ⚽️ Most PL goals for @SpursOfficial 181 Harry Kane97 Teddy Sheringham91 Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane, HEUNG-MIN SON pic.twitter.com/czX3LNMhEs— Sky Sports Statto (@SkySportsStatto) May 12, 2022 Arsenal started well in front of 60.000 frantic Spurs supporters but soon made their first mistake of the day – Holding in combination with Cedric made a clumsy tackle on Son and penalty was awarded. Maybe a bit soft, but VAR didn’t overturned it, and Harry Kane made no mistake from the white spot: 1-0, 22nd minute. 10 minutes after, a disaster stuck. Rob Holding, who will have a sleepless night, made a terrible tackle with his elbow, again on unstoppable Son, and this was his second yellow card. Rob Holding made four fouls against Spurs leading up to his dismissal, with all four of them coming on Son Heung-min. His four fouls are the most he has ever made in a Premier League game, despite only playing 33 minutes. After half an hour, the Gunners were reduced to 10 men. Against in-form Tottenham playing at home, it was impossible to squeeze even a draw. Keane scored a brace in the 37th minute and just as Arsenal tried to do something with 10 men, Son added another one just two minutes into the second half. Enough to kill any will for the guests that they could make a surprise. Until the end, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta just wanted to make sure that he doesn’t go into the record books with some heavy defeat, so the score remained the same. Arteta needs to find a winning formula (again) until Monday, when they travel to Newcastle, or he will miss on the Champions League (again).
