FKF Transition Committee confirms Mathare’s relegation

The Football Kenya Federation Transition Committee have formally kicked out the 2008 league champions Mathare United from the top flight.Mathare, as expected have seen the red card from the recently gazetted body for failing to honour three consecutive league matches citing financial challenges. The committee that took over the running of the game on Thursday, rolled on their sleeves and reviewed the reports of the club’s past three matches that indicated that, they did not make way to the pitch. The slum boys first failed to show up against Bandari at the Kasarani Annex on April 24 and gave the subsequent game against Ulinzi Stars slated for Kericho Stadium six days later a wide berth. The team dished the third walkover against Sofapaka last week and consequently, had to relinquish their top flight status. After failing to turn up for the third time, Chairman Bob Munro in a letter insisted that the team will not sink into oblivion but will instead come back strong in the next term. The committee’s head of secretariat Lindah Oguttu in a latter addressed to Munro revealed that they invoked article 3.1.12 of the rules and regulations governing Kenyan football.”Any club in a league that does not turn up in three fixtures in a season and their explanation under Rule 3.1.7 is not accepted in all the three incidences to the FKF National Leagues and Competitions, shall be suspended for the rest of the season, shall be relegated to the lower league for the next season and may face disciplinary action,” read part of the letter.
