Victor Wanyama explains how he ended up at CF Montreal from Tottenham Hotspur

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has explained how he ended up at Major League Soccer’s (MLS) outfit CF Montreal after leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.Wanyama joined the Canadian side in March 2020 as a designated player and has gone on to become a household name at the club including ascending to be named the club’s captain.In the MLS, the designated player rule allows teams to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap, either in the player’s wages or transfer fee and enables teams to compete for star players in the international soccer market.+3 🔵⚫️ pic.twitter.com/zriKoI33gm— Victor Wanyama (@VictorWanyama) May 15, 2022 Speaking in an interview with TBIRMontreal, Wanyama revealed that he had options of continuing his stay in Europe but he went for a different experience having had spent more than a decade in Europe.The former Tottenham midfielder also noted that Montreal’s Sporting Director Olivier Renard played a huge role in swaying the combative midfielder to join the side.”I had a few options to stay in Europe but I wanted a different experience. I knew the coach then Thiery Henry. Not everyone knows this but I also knew Olivier Renard. When I was in Belgium I saw him play and he was a good keeper and he knew me too. He called and told me that they needed my services. He explained the project to me and how I fit in the project and I made the decision.
