Applause for Chilly! Long-term absentee returns to training – but is way off from playing

It’s been a torrid time for Chelsea’s left-back Ben Chilwell, but there are good days ahead. The 25-year-old star has returned to training after months of rehabilitation and is now aiming to return to full fitness. The England international picked up a bad knee injury in November, and it was clear even then that his season was probably over. But the former Leicester City defender can now say that the worst is behind him. He returned to the training pitch and was greeted by his fellow first-teamers. He got a warm reception from the squad.Back in the mix!@BenChilwell 👏 pic.twitter.com/xFg4YHt5vL— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) May 17, 2022 Applause rang around the pitch as captain Cesar Azpilicueta, and coach Thomas Tuchel welcomed Ben back. The German coach confirmed that Chilwell probably isn’t going to appear in Chelsea’s two final Premier League matches of the season, though.”Ben will now go into the transition period where he can join in with the academy team for training on a tactical level over the next few weeks. We will give him time and won’t try to rush Chilly. This will be his next steps and hopefully he can join in with first-team training before the end of the season, but there will be no matches at this kind of level for him.”Thursday, 22.00: (1.43) Chelsea (4.90) Leicester (9.00)Before his injury, Chilwell was in excellent form, having claimed the left-sided wing-back role in Tuchel’s system as his own. The 25-year-old had made 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals before his season was cruelly ended.Eyes back on it! 👀 pic.twitter.com/0jUi78TRXS— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) May 17, 2022 Since then, he has missed 41 games in all competitions and has proven to be a considerable miss, with the Blues failing to defeat in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals. Chelsea have since been forced to rely on Spanish full-back Marcos Alonso, who has produced a respectable four goals and six assists for the season.
