In France, PSG was mathematically champion few weeks ago, but apart from the Parisian, everybody else are waiting for last round, which is scheduled for 22h Nairobi time, to resolve their future. For someone it will be a Champions League spot, for someone Europa and the Conference League, for someone ligue survival, and for other – nothing. Nine clubs have a lot to play for in the last round, from European football to relegation. Monaco, Marseille, Rennes, Strasbourg, Nice and Lens will battle between themselves in the upper part of the table, while Metz, Saint Etienne and Bordeaux are three points away from survival/relegation/playoff. They have been revived under the new boss Philippe Clement and used the opportunity given to them by Marseille to take the second spot. All they need to do is win or draw and they will be second no matter how other rivals finish their games. Easier said than done, since they are travelling to Lens, who desperately need a win in order to secure the Conference League. So, a tough match is expected, but even if they defeat Monaco, they are still dependent on Strasbourg, who are currently occupying 5th spot. But, they have problems of their own. They are travelling to Marseille, who has a must win game and will be supported by 65,000 people at the Velodrome. He is coming…or maybe not? Mbappe chooses to stay in PSGBut, as statistic shows, Jorge Sampaoli’s men are not so happy when there are so many home fans. Even thou Marseille had an average attendance of over 50000 people, the best in France, the team has only 7 wins to show for. They have lost 25 points on home ground and are only the 9th elite team, very far behind PSG, Rennes and Monaco. Ahead of this match, Sampaoli will be without key player Dimitri Payet, along with Bamba Dieng, while Cedric Bakambu is not being 100%. Are you still following? OK, let’s move to Rennes, who are travelling to Lille in order to win and hope that either Marseille or Monaco loses, so they can jump to number 2. Out of all clubs fighting for Europe, Rennes have the best goal difference, and any situation in which they have the same number of points as Monaco or Marseille will see them winning at the table. And let’s not forget Nice, who used to be at number 2, but now finds themselves out of the equation. However, if they manage to win in Reims, they could still end up in Europe next season. France ‘steals’ Kamara from Senegal, no call up for GiroudThe problem is at the bottom as well. Of all three clubs, Bordeaux is in the toughest situation and they are as good as gone. In theory, they should defeat Brest by a 7 or 8 goals and hope everybody else loses, just so they can play in a playoff relegation match with Auxerre. But that’s probably won’t happen, so we will have Saint Etienne and Metz fighting for the last available playoff spot. Metz are in tougher position, as they play in Paris, and PSG really doesn’t want to spoil a title party in front of the packed stadium. So all that Saint Etienne needs to do is get at least a point in Nantes, and they will be bound for Auxerre. It will surely be exciting.
