Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have confirmed that Uganda Cranes stalwart, Tonny Mawejje will be accorded a standing ovation in the sixth minute of the Ugandan Premier League match between champions, Vipers SC and Police FC at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Saturday afternoon.Mawejje, will bring to an end what has been a glamorous career at the age of 35. During his 18-year-long career, he turned out for KCCA, Police FC, and Uganda Revenue Authority in the Ugandan Premier League before going overseas. He went on to play in Norway, Iceland, Albania, South Africa and Kuwait. He turned out for Uganda Cranes 83 times, winning a couple of CECAFA Senior Challenge titles and featured at the 2017 AFCON in Gabon.FUFA plans to honour him as he exits the scene on Saturday afternoon.“FUFA confirms that Tonny Mawejje will be accorded a standing ovation when the 6th minute of the UPL match between Vipers SC and Police FC clocks at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Saturday 21.5.2022. Playing football is all I have ever wanted to do and am happy to have had such a long career. It’s time to leave the stage and concentrate on other aspects of the game,” he stated.On his future plans, the combative midfielder disclosed that he wants to go into coaching after shelving his earlier plans to become a football agent.“At the start, I wanted to be a football agent since I have made so many contacts from playing abroad but Covid19 pandemic did change that though that will also come.For now, I want to go into coaching especially for the young boys and would really want set up an academy.”
