Kayole Starlets looking to retain WPL status

Coach Joshua Sakwa has his work cut out as Kayole Starlets fight to remain in the top tier league where the bottom three finishers are set to be relegated from the Women Premier League (WPL). Sakwa’s charges hang dangerously in ninth place, with Kangemi Ladies who have already lost the battle have Kisumu All Starlets and Bunyore Starlets holding the last three positions in the league. Bunyore and Kisumu All Starlets risk being axed from the top flight league https://t.co/Xx1PzpkqUf— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) May 23, 2022 With three matches left to play, Sakwa says four points will guarantee the Eastlands side a place in the next round of top tier football. “Bunyore Starlets remain our biggest threat in the last four teams as they have fairly easier matches left to play and were they to pick more points than us it would be detrimental. However, we are focusing on our own fight and are keen to bag at least four points,” said Sakwa. The side has played for five wins and one draw in 19 matches which leaves them with 16 points, one above Bunyore Starlets who have won five. Over the weekend, Sakwa will guide his charges against Ulinzi Starlets who are on a match to finish the league in second place. Also on Kayole’s books for the remaining part of the season is Trans Nzoia Falcons who are fighting for a top-five finish and finally relegation-threatened Kisumu. “These are tough matches against teams I respect and it will be no easy task. We are, however, keen on picking points against Kisumu and force a draw against the other two or even pick a win to be safe,” explained Sakwa. Meanwhile, Kisumu All Starlets who are in a similar predicament trail Bunyore by a point with an equally tough path to remaining in the top tier. The Said Juma-coached women play Trans Nzoia Falcons this weekend before meeting Thika Queens at Thika and finally play Kayole Starlets.
