Two in, two out: Bayern’s reboot in midfield

This will be an interesting July transfer window for Bayern Munich. The Bavarians are eager to remain the undisputed leader in Bundesliga after they just won their 10th consecutive title, and changes are on the way. The biggest ‘problem’ for Munich in recent years was the bench. While they had some quality cover for the wingers position, the central midfield was almost exclusively reserved for the dynamo duo Leon Goretzka – Joshua Kimmich. But, when one of them was injured, the bench proved to be too ‘thin’ with only Corentin Tolisso and Mark Roca available. Jamal Musiala came to the rescue a couple of times, and this season Marcel Sabitzer was brought from RB Leipzig, but failed to show his potential.🚨 Ryan Gravenberch will complete his medical at Bayern Munich today ahead of sealing his move from Ajax. The Frenchman is a free agent, after his contract was not renewed, mainly due to inconsistent performances and frequent injuries. Tolisso has missed an astonishing 95 games and 545 days of field time per Transfermarkt. Too little for a once record signing (41.5 million euros), who is now worth only 15 million. Unlike the Frenchman, young Spaniard Roca is still under contract (signed from Espanyol in 2020) but he will be shipped as soon as any bid comes along (Frankfurt is being mentioned in the German press).(2.45) SCOTLAND (3.10) UKRAINE (3.45)As for the incoming midfielders, Gravenberch is all but signed. Ajax’s midfielder has travelled to Germany in the company of his agent and father, so it remains to be seen whether the deal will be signed on Wednesday or some other day. All in all, a contract until 2028 and an annual salary of 10,000,000 euros gross have been prepared for the Netherlands’s international. Bayern and Ajax agreed on compensation of around 24,500,000 euros. 12,000,000 euros will be a fixed payment, and the rest of the money will go through easily achievable bonuses.Lewandowski: I’m done with Bayern! It’s best that I leave, don’t try to stop meThe deal for Conrad Laimer is a much tougher thou. RB Leipzig lives from player’s sale, but it doesn’t mean they will sell every time Bayern desires. After all, they have lost Sabitzer in 2021 and they are not gonna let the Austrian international leave, if they can. The problem is, he has one year on his contract and he doesn’t wanna renew it, so it puts Leipzig in an awkward position. It looks like they will have to sell him to Bayern in the end, and the sum mentioned is between 18 and 20 million euros. If he signs (which is widely expected), he would be the third Leipzig player who moved to Bayern in recent times. Leimer and Sabitzer are two players which coach Julian Nagelsmann wanted, and the third one, Dayot Upamecano was bought by Bayern when Nagelsmann was still Leipzig coach.
