Sports Cabinet Secretary appoints taskforce to review contoversial Sports Act 2013

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has appointed a nine member taskforce that is expected to review the National Sports Policy Framework and the Sports Act No. 25 of 2013.In an official statement seen by Mozzart Sport, Sandra Ochola was named as the Chairperson of the body with Lucy Tekenet named as her Vice-Chairperson.According to the CS, the taskforce has been formed with the intention of enhancing the streamlining sports operations and to improve the management of sports federations among other things.“In line with the Government’s efforts to streamline sports operations, provide an enabling policy, legal and institutional framework, improve the management of sports federations and ensure the alignment of the National Sports Policy and Sports Act to the Constitution of Kenya and other statutory laws and the international best practices, I have formed a Taskforce,” the statement read.1/4 Sports CS @AMB_A_Mohammed and PS @JoeOkudo were among thousands of fans who watched Madaraka Day exhibition match between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi. pic.twitter.com/9LbgTbO4Ta— Ministry Of Sports, Culture & Heritage (@moscakenya) June 2, 2022 The Taskforce that has Sports Registrar Rose Wasike as one the members alongside Jackson Gitonga (Member), Jacob Ojuado (Member), Rizpa Mukonyo (Joint Secretary), Christine Mangwana (Joint Secretary), Caroline Kariuki (Secretariat) and Praxides Barasa (Secretariat) has been mandated to:Undertake a review and scrutiny of the National Sports Policy framework and Sports legislation.Assess the current state of the policy, policy applicability and legal compliance.Provide a comprehensive report with recommendations for revision, deletion, demotion and consolidation of the National Sports Policy framework and review of the Sports Act for the best interests of the Sports Sector.Teenager Ochuoga relishing trophy laden future with Gor Mahia after Madaraka Cup triumphThe Taskforce whose reign has already started are expected to serve for a period of 30 days starting 30 May 2022 and is expected to hand in their report by 30th June 2022.
