Despite being honoured as Manchester United’s player of the season, David De Gea has been left out entirely out of the Spanish national team squad. Coach Luis Enrique spoke ahead of his team’s match against the Czech Republic and said that he’s pleased with the three goalkeepers at his disposal – Athletic Club’s Unai Simon, Brentford’s David Raya and Brighton’s Robert Sanchez.David pulled off some 🔝 saves in 2021/22 👏#MUFC | @D_DeGea pic.twitter.com/cL7QkyeGga— Manchester United (@ManUtd) June 3, 2022 Although Simon has been starting most games lately, the tactician says that all three goalies he called up are equally competent.”I look to have three starting goalkeepers, and I think that right now I have them. Honestly, I wouldn’t have an issue with any of the three of them starting. Unai has accumulated some valuable experience. A goalkeeper should start the play and generate the first advantage. Also, they must dominate the aerial play. I need a goalkeeper that transmits peace and calmness to me. That doesn’t mean they won’t make mistakes – because errors are a part of football. What they generate I like a lot.””I need a goalkeeper that transmits peace and calmness to me. Even though the former Atletico Madrid youngster is a fantastic shot-stopper, the current La Furia Roja boss clearly has other ideas about what his goalkeeper should be.De Gea’s most recent appearance for Spain came in October 2020. Enrique’s comments now place serious doubt over whether the Old Trafford hero will be included in their squad for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
