Vihiga Queens’ head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu is happy after his side bagged the league title on Sunday but hopes that the women’s league will get sponsorship in the near future.United reclaimed their league title with five matches to go but had to wait until Sunday to be feted by the FKF Transition Committee. The title was Queens’ fourth in history as they wrestled to reclaim the title they lost to Thika Queens last year; they did it in style ending the season without losing any game.##NAJAVA_MECA_6453987##It was also Nyamunyamu’s first season as head coach. The tactician, who previously served as Alex Alumirah’s assistant was handed the team at the start of the campaign after Alumirah left for Tanzania and was later unveiled as Harambee Starlets’ head coach.Nyamunyamu admits that the women’s league is tough even though it does not get much focus. He further hopes that the league will get a sponsor with most teams struggling.“The Women’s League has a lot of competition even more than KPL but it doesn’t get a lot of focus. My players did well since winning the league unbeaten is not easy with the meagre resources we had. It was a good season and one of the best we have ever had and we hope sponsorship can be sourced for WPL just like KPL,” he told the Nation. At the start of the campaign, Queens lost three players to clubs outside the country. First-choice keeper, Lilian Awuor moved to France to join, ASJ Soyaux-Charente while strikers Jentrix Shikangwa and Teresa Engesha moved to Fatih Karagumruk SK in Turkey and South Korea’s top-tier side Incheon Hyundai Steel Red Angels respectively and the tactician is happy that other players stepped up.“The trio was key players to us and is doing well in their new clubs. When they left at some point we struggled to win matches but later Situma (Topister) and others in the team did well and started scoring goals for us. The success we had was because of teamwork,” he added.Vihiga Queens promise better showing after first continental experience
