Matano opens up on bleak future of Kenyan football

Barely two days after successfully bagging his fourth league crown with Tusker FC and retaining the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title, Robert Matano is concerned about the bleak future of football in the country.Despite winning the league there is a major doubt as to whether the Brewers will participate in the CAF Champions League as Kenya is currently serving an indefinite FIFA suspension.Kenyan-born winger heading to the world cupThe 2021-2022 season was a treacherous one with Mathare United being expelled for failing to honour three fixtures while Kariobangi Sharks and FC Talanta failed to honour matches.Matano was bothered by the current state of football in the country as he called on the government to streamline the sport with a number of walkovers being dished out in the just concluded season. “We should be honest with ourselves and the way things are going, maybe in the future there will be no football in Kenya, if a club like Sharks and Talanta are giving walkovers and clubs like Mathare and Vihiga are going out of the league there’s something wrong happening.##NAJAVA_MECA_6451519##The government should come and sort things out, you must be in the field to win, if something went wrong and Posta won the game, I don’t think Homeboyz would be celebrating. We should win the league through what you do on the pitch,” said Matano in an interview with The Game Plan. Tusker recovered well after a torrid start to the season that saw them trail runners up Kakamega Homeboyz by 18 points at a certain stage of the season. Matano however went on an outburst in his post match right after winning the league as he threatened to quit the club citing frustrations from a certain club official and opened up more on the matter. Homeboyz skipper pleads with government to intervene after losing title“Not all officials were frustrating me, just one official but that is normal in football especially in Kenya, when you do the right thing some people don’t think you can do better, I was always suspected and mistrust is always there all the time.I’m used to it but I have to express what I feel. It was a mixture of happiness and sadness, as a human being someone should always appreciate your effort and at least wish the best for you but someone should not always be against you,” added Matano.
