Experienced midfield general Humprey Mieno has revealed how 2021/2022 Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Tusker FC managed to pip early season favourites Kakamega Homeboyz to the title when it looked as if the western based side would finally land their maiden trophy in the top flight.According to the Tusker captain, Homeboyz did not know how to cope with the pressure at the top leading to the team faltering during the campaign and allowing the Brewers to close the deficit they had on their way to winning the title on superior goal difference.CHAMP13NS!!!! #BackToBack pic.twitter.com/rcTsbYZN7q— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) June 12, 2022 In their title defence, the Robert Matano coached side had to overcome an 18-point gap at some point during the season as they made one of the best title comebacks in recent years.“I think our opponents faltered. You know being at the top of the league is not easy. There is pressure that comes with being up there so I feel they succumbed to that pressure which made it hard for them and that enabled us to close the gap as we finally won the league,” the player told Mozzart Sport..@tusker_fc clinch their 13th league title to become the second most decorated club in the country.Recap#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/K0ty986xcc— Ochieng’ Stephen (@soo_ochieng) June 12, 2022 In lifting the title, Mieno, who won his third league title with the Brewers after successes in 2016 and 2020/2021 seasons, expressed his delight at the team’s efforts in managing to steady their ship especially after having a poor season.“I am really happy to win the title this season because it was not easy for us.
