“You don’t know what you’re doing”

After a good couple of years (Euro 2020 finals, World Cup semi final), England team got embarrassed in front of the home crowd in this year’s UEFA Nations League. Not only did they lost 4-0 to Hungary, but they are dead last in their group with only 2 points, three less then the next opponent – Euro champions Italy. On top of that, they made history with some bad records. A defeat from Hungary was their worst at home since 1928 and it was also their first defeat ever with four of more goals received but none scored. Gareth Southgate tacticspic.twitter.com/PijSdF7IfR— Troll Football (@TrollFootball) June 14, 2022 The Three Lions have now gone four games without a victory for the first time since 2014 and it doesn’t look promising. Coach Gareth Southgate was the point of ’abuse’ by the home fans, as chants „You don’t know what you’re doing“ could be heard from the Molineux stands. England manager also decided to rest some player, which was quite logical, and he introduced as much as 9 players into the starting lineup, and later on used that as an excuse. He also did the same in the last week’s draw with Italy, but the result against the reigning EURO champions was 0-0, not 0-4. (1.22) AL AHLY CAIRO (6.50) EASTERN COMPANY (15.0)Players who came to the pitch like Stones, Walker and James in defense, or Kalvin Phillips and Jude Bellingham, or Keane and Saka up front can hardly be called ’young and unexperienced’, as some of them are Champions League regulars, and some of them are even winners of that competition. After the horror game, Gareth Southgate took the full responsibility for the defeat but also tried to compare himself to great Bobby Robson. „I said to the players, our four matches is my responsibility. I have to balance looking at new players, rest players. We couldn’t keep flogging out our experienced players. It was an important experience for lots of young players in these games. I understand the reaction in the stadium, what I would say is that in these sets of fixtures, these players have been unbelievable for the country. They have to stay with them. Tonight was the sort of night that my predecessors have had. It’s important to stand. I’m not going to say it doesn’t hurt. I’ve watched as a kid and a player, and I recognise those difficult times. But you can’t just be at the front when things are good, and not stand up when things get tough. I knew the role before I took it. It’s happened in ten days, not eleven months. But I’ve seen other England managers go through that – the great Bobby Robson was, and look how he was judged in the end. Football is emotion, and if the flak comes my way, you have to expect that. You can’t be England manager and have the run I’ve had for the last five years without also having some tough times” What a night in the Nations League! Germany thrash Italy, humiliation at Molineux as Hungary stomp EnglandEngland captain Harry Kane offered his full support to the manager and also reminded the angry fans that they achieved some great results in the last couple of years. „I understand the fans frustration, we want to win every time we put on an England shirt. “The crowd have to understand that. We have to keep working to have a successful World Cup. It’s our first big defeat in a long, long time. The defence has been the structure of our success over the last few years. It’s a night to forget of course. We have to take it on the chin and move forward. We have to prepare for a big World Cup. That’s the most important thing. We have learned a lot from this camp. Let’s not forget where we’ve come from: our first final in 60 years at Euro 2020 last summer, semi-final in the World Cup, compared to where we were in the last 50 years” said Kane. This manager has taken the country in two tournaments to the best positions since 1966. Also this idea that Southgate is holding this group back is nonsense, this squad is no better than 2004/6 and 1996/98. Southgate has overachieved albeit with favorable draws. Rest up boys & come back to your normal level“ he wrote on Twitter.
