After what has been a stellar title-winning season with Tusker FC, Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi is now being linked with a move to Tanzanian Premier League (TPL) giants Azam FC who’ve had an underwhelming campaign.Matasi was one of the standout performers in a troubled FKF Premier League campaign as Tusker managed to shake off their early season’s struggles to win the title on goal difference. Both the Brewers and Kakamega Homeboyz were tied at 63 points but a superior goal advantage titled the race to Tusker’s favour.##NAJAVA_MECA_6467684##With 18 clean sheets in 25 games, Matasi, who returned to Tusker FC at the start of the season from St, George FC of Ethiopia attracted the interest of big-spending Kenya Police FC who were keen on offering him a chance to join the police service. He has since poured cold water on the rumors saying that he is solely focused on the Brewers.Reports in Tanzania now indicate that Azam FC are keen on pricing away the seasoned goalkeeper who over years has grown to become one of the best in recent years. Current Azam number 1, Mathias Kigonya has been linked with a switch to rivals, Simba and the ice-cream makers want Matasi to fill the void that will be created by the former Sofapaka FC goalkeeper who is said to be keen on joining Wekundu wa Msimbazi.Matasi will however not come cheap, with almost two years left on his current deal with Tusker FC, Azam will have to part with a top dollar to land him. Tusker have proven to be tough negotiators for players heading out of the country over the years. When u Win Your 1st FKF Premier League Title Full Time Reaction from Tusker FC goalkeeper Patrick MatasiRead More https://t.co/Ck1kmj1fpw pic.twitter.com/pGzaJgdZC8— Kelly Ayodi (@AyodiKelly) June 12, 2022 Should the move materialize, Matasi will join another Kenyan international Kenneth Muguna at Azam. The midfielder joined the club from Gor Mahia last year and has been a key player for the fourth-placed side. Other Kenyan players who have turned out for Azam previously include; Allan Wanga, Ibrahim Shikanda, Humphrey Mieno, Joackins Atudo, Crispin Odula, and George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo. The custodian, who was part of the Kenya team at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt started out at the now-defunct West Kenya FC, he then moved to AFC Leopards in 2011, after four years at the club he switched to Posta Rangers in 2015. After three years at the club, he joined Tusker in 2018 but only lasted for a couple of months before joining St, George of Ethiopia where he stayed until 2021.
