Dan Akala Shikanda has been elected for a second and final term as the AFC Leopards chairman after flooring his only his only contestant Ronald Namai during the elections held on Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre indoor games Arena.Shikanda who has been at the helm of the club since 2019 was facing competition from the former club CEO whom he trounced in the last election and he completed a double over during the Sunday polls.##EDITORS_CHOICE##The margin was however smaller this time round an indication of the members growing confidence in Namai or their waning trust in the former club winger.In 2019 Shikanda 456 got compared to Namai’s 72 but on Sunday, the he garnered as Namai picked.Mombasa-based businessman Gilbert Andugu was elected new Secretary General. The position of Secretary General had attracted the biggest number of candidates (3) in the Sunday polls. Andugu saw off competition from Robert Situma and Tonny Omusina to win the post.He garnered to win the race 398. Situma who finished second got 191 while Omusina picked a paltry 42, nine stray ballots were recorded. Andugu replaces Oliver Sikuku who bows out after serving for two terms as permitted by the constitution.Former treasurer Oliver Napali Imbezi returns to the docket unopposed. This is after the incumbent, and his only challenger for the position Maurice Chichi was barred from vying after failing to meet some of the requirements as per the club’s constitution.The new officials come into office at a time when the club is facing some challenges. The first is financial which may ease if the recently launched pledge between the club and a betting firm comes into fruition. The deal, if sealed will be worth Ksh. 60 million per year.The other is a FIFA transfer ban slapped on the club. The club was sanctioned a month ago and banished from signing players for the next two windows this means they will have to strive to keep their current playing unit until July 2023 when they will be eligible to recruit again. They will also be striving to keep on demand coach Patrick Aussems.
