Following a turbulent season that saw them expelled from the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL), Mathare United defender Kennedy Ochieng has paid tribute to the club and his former managers.The tenacious right back joined the Slum Boys from Division One outfit Liberty Sports Academy and was a constant figure at the club since making his debut in the 2020-2021 season.Olunga’s Duhail lose in pre-season friendlyOchieng shared his parting shot after leaving Mathare United as he thanked the club for fulfilling his dream of featuring in the Premier League as he went on to laud his former coaches.“Mathare United gave me the platform that I was looking for all my life and I would like to appreciate everyone that played a part in my development from the technical bench to the office.I would like to thank coach Salim (Ali) who handed me my debut and coach (Frank) Ouna who ranks among the best coaches I’ve worked with and without them I would not be where I am today,” said Ochieng.Mathare were expelled from the league after dishing out three walkovers due to financial challenges that hit the club last season after lacking a sponsor.The defender admitted that he would love to see the club return to the topflight after handing chances to young talents including him.Mwalala unperturbed with player exodus at Homeboyz“I would really love to see them return to the Premier League because Mathare is still a big team. It’s just that things didn’t go as planned this season but they remain a big team.They have always handed a chance to young players and just like I was spotted from the lower leagues, it will also give a chance to many upcoming footballers,” added Ochieng.
