Mathare United chairman and founder of the Mathare Youth Sports Association Bob Munro has been appointed to the Order of Canada, the country’s highest honour by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.Besides her contribution to football on the local scene, Munro has a rich CV that boasts of exceptional work on environmental issues and sustainable development which saw him receive recognition.He worked as a United Nations Rapporteur for the first UN Conference on the Human Environment (UNCHE), held in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1972. Over 30,000 young boys and girls participate annually in the MYSA self-help youth sports and community service programmes which “Gives youth a sporting chance” on and off the field.The Order of Canada, the nation’s greatest honour, honours people who make extraordinary contributions to the nation. Since its creation in 1967, Canada’s centennial year, more than 7,600 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order. The contributions of these trailblazers are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and made a difference in Canada.
