Muyoti reviews City Stars’ season

Nairobi City Stars coach Nicholas Muyoti has given a breakdown of the concluded 2021/22 FKF Premier League (FKF-PL) where Simba wa Nairobi finished in sixth position in the log.City Stars were in the title race throughout the season but a slip towards the end of the campaign saw them slip out of the race. This was largely as a resultant of injuries to key players like Peter Opiyo, Steve Njunge, and Oliver Maloba who got sidelined at a crucial stage of the campaign.##NAJAVA_MECA_6488504##Muyoti took charge of the team before the start of the campaign and he believes that they did well although he admits that they would have performed better if they had strong character within the team.“Being my first season with the team I must say we did well. It was an improved performance from last season though I feel we had the capability to do better. We had a bad start then we picked up and at some point, we were title contenders but we Just didn’t have enough character and resilience to push and go for the title,” he told the club’s official portal. The tactician then went to vet the performance of the players and technical bench members. All players bar Ronnie Kola who was sidelined with an injury got minutes under their belt.“I am happy with the overall performance of the team, all the players got an opportunity to play apart from injured Ronnie Kola. Some were very impressive and others couldn’t take the opportunity to become regulars in the team,”He lauded keeper Jacob Osano and his four midfielders for having an outstanding season. Defender Herit Mungai who made the left-back his own towards the end of the season was also lauded.“Osano was outstanding in goal, keeping as many (13) clean sheets, (Herit) Mungai had improved performance, Sven (Yidah), (Anthony) Kimani, (Peter) Opiyo, and Timothy (Ouma) were outstanding in midfield,” he stated.Nairobi City Stars midfielder Sven Yidah is moving to the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL). He is joining a team that will be playing CAF Club Football next season. (Oliver) Maloba and Rodgers (Okumu) did well but were not consistent, and (Ezekiel) Odera our top scorer did great,”He admitted to challenges in the technical staff which they intend to improve on but gave the management a clean bill for playing their role well.“The technical staff did well, though with a few shortcomings, and we look forward to improving in the next season. The management played her part and we owe it to them, allowances and salaries were paid on time unlike most of the teams in the league,” he added.##EDITORS_CHOICE##He ended by lauding the club supporters for standing with the team throughout the campaign.“We thank the fans for their support as they really pushed the team regardless of where we played. We hope they will continue with the same spirit. Generally, I thank God for an improved performance and hope to do better next season.” concluded Muyoti.
