Former Harambee Stars striker Taiwo Atieno has urged top-tier clubs to consider shifting their bases from Nairobi if they are eager to grow professionally. Taiwo, who currently serves as the Kenyan Premier League Ltd Commercial Director, argues that it is economically impossible for football clubs to thrive in the capital city. “The rate of inflation in Nairobi is far much higher than in other counties. There are more opportunities for clubs to develop into professional outfits outside the capital city where there’s affordable land that they can use to build training pitches, stadia and other important facilities without much red tape that is the norm in Nairobi,” he said,##NAJAVA_MECA_6495952##“It is also easier to build a fanatical following upcountry. It is a shame to see top-tier games in Kenya played every weekend with almost no fans attending. I can assure you that most of these matches would pull sizeable crowds if they were played outside Nairobi and that translates into revenue for the clubs,” he added.
