Former Sofapaka midfielder Wisdom Naya has succumbed to tissue cancer after a long torturous battle that entailed losing a leg through amputation amputation in India.Naya was pronounced dead on Friday morning at a Kitale hospital where he had been rushed to on Thursday with breathing complications. His demise is a big blow to the football fraternity that had joined hands to raise funds for his treatment.The youngster was amputated in January after he got diagnosed with cancerous soft-tissue Sarcoma in December 2020. After several chemotherapy sessions, his situation did not improve and he moved to India for speciliazed treatment where his left-foot was amputated.The 18-year old was upbeat after returning from India and expressed confidence that he would eventually beat the disease and lead a normal life. He however developed complications that affected other organs before he succumbed to the disease on Friday morning.“This is really hard to take. He was confident of beating the disease and he remained positive even after the amputation. Losing a battle, he was so confident of beating is devastating.
