KAA Gent, home to Kenyan international Joseph Okumu, will be eyeing to get their 2022/2023 season off to a perfect start when they take on reigning league champions Club Brugge in the Belgian Super Cup which acts as the season’s curtain raiser on Sunday 17 July 2022.The Belgian Super Cup is a club competition played as a single match between the Belgian First Division A champions and the Belgian Cup winners.Gent qualified to take part in the competition after defeating powerhouse Anderlecht 4-3 on post-match penalties following a barren stalemate both in normal and extra time. Brugge on the other hand were the Belgian champions in the 2021/2022 campaign.“After five weeks of preparation, the real work awaits. Our boys are ready to open the season and what an opener it will be: the Supercup. On 17 July we will take on Club Brugge in the Jan Breydel Stadium. Once you train intensively three times a day in that heat, you quickly get used to it. The temperature is the same for both teams, so it cannot be an excuse. The Super Cup is a prestigious duel.
