Alert in Leicester: Newcastle offered 47 million for Maddison

Leicester fans can hardly be satisfied with what their club has done, or to be more precise, hasn’t done during the current transfer window. The Foxes are the only club in the Premier League that has not yet managed to bring reinforcements, and they haven’t been linked with anyone, which is even worse. The only word that has been ‘following’ Leicester City is ‘departure’. Yuri Tielemans has been destined to leave since the last day of the Premier League, but luckily for everybody, it hasn’t happened (yet). Kasper Schmeichel is another in line, as the Danish keeper agreed on a deal with Nice, and today, a surprise name came up – James Maddison. Spoke to people last night about this with @JPercyTelegraph and it’s 100% true from #nufc end. Naturally they would rather it hadn’t come out in public but let’s see what happens next. Player thought to be keen on move https://t.co/90AsO60TlU— Luke Edwards (@LukeEdwardsTele) July 30, 2022 Arguably the Foxes’ best player last season was not mentioned in any conversation until today when Telegraph revealed that Newcastle United submitted 47 million euros for a player who scored 18 goals and 12 assists last season. This was an offer which Newcastle didn’t want to be revealed (just like an offer for Unai Emery), but the word is out, and the Foxes quickly refused the offer. The Magpies will come back with an improved offer, but Leicester are poised to offer their attacking midfielder a new offer. Even if he didn’t want one, Maddison would get a new, much-improved offer from the club, just two years after he signed a new one.  Newcastle took 170 million euros loan from the bank for a striker, a winger and a stopperThe Foxes are not in great shape financially, and that’s probably the biggest reason they are quiet in this transfer window. They also have some unresolved contract issues with a number of players. Caglar Soyuncu, Ayoze Perez, Jamie Vardy and Jonny Evans, along with Yuri Tielemans, all have just one year in their contracts, and nobody has extended yet. It would be a disaster if they allow Maddison to leave, and Newcastle’s move is also a strange one. The Magpies are stacked in midfield and are actually looking for a winger and a striker for months now. Their interest for Leicester’s winger Harvey Barnes was a logical one, as well as for Timo Werner from Chelsea, but Maddison came as a surprise. We’ll see what happens next. ##NAJAVA_MECA_6537540##
