Former Nzoia Sugar midfielder appeals for funds after horrific knee injury

Following a horrific knee injury that has threatened to halt his career, Mully Children’s Family (MCF) FC midfielder Benjamin Muchuma is appealing to the public to help him raise Ksh 300,000 for surgery.The former Nzoia Sugar midfielder completely tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) back in December after he landed awkwardly in training while challenging for an aerial ball.Former Nzoia forward set to quit football to sell bootsFaced with a huge Ksh 300,000 amount needed for the surgery, Muchuma is yet to go under the knife more than seven months later with the club also struggling to raise the funds.Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Muchuma explained how he suffered the unfortunate knee injury. AFC Leopards physiotherapist Patrick Ngusale helped him identify the true nature of the iinjury.“I was training with the team and landed awkwardly which led to my knee swelling but I thought it was a normal knee injury which would ease off with time but it got to a point where the pain was unbearable.I went to see the AFC Leopards physio after some time and he told me I tore my ACL which was confirmed by the scans I did,” explained Muchuma.The club advised him to undergo the surgery at Machakos and Thika Level 5 Hospitals but healthcare facilities were not able to reconstruct his ACL.##NAJAVA_MECA_6534831##Muchuma has however never missed his salary despite not playing for the club for over half a year as he was a Mully Children’s Family employee which is a non-profit organisation and doubled up as a player at the club.Having been included in the wife’s NHIF policy, the insurance is willing to pay Ksh 150,000 for the surgery but Muchuma’s fundraiser to cover the other half has so far raised Ksh 12,000 only.The 27-year-old opened up on how the injury has affected his life as he now how to move around in crutches and is the only bread winner of his family.Assist for Tobias Otieno as Tormenta beat league leaders on the road“Right now I cannot run, I’m in a lot of discomfort and now it has gotten to a point that I cannot walk without my crutches and I have also not been able to report to work for the last few months.My boots business is what is supplementing my income because my wife does not work, Covid-19 led to her losing her job,” added Muchuma.Those wishing to contribute towards his surgery fundraiser can do so using this M-Changa link.
