Olunga gets a new teammate: a pistol-wielding, kidnapping former Portugal international

Qatari team Al Duhail SC boasts our Michael Olunga in attack, but they’ve just secured a high-profile, albeit controversial, addition to their defence. Portuguese centre-back Ruben Semedo signed a three-year contract with the Middle-East club.On paper, Semedo looks like he should be playing in one of the world’s strongest leagues, but his career didn’t quite pan out as planned – primarily to his off-the-field issues. Just two years ago, Semedo was donning a Portugal shirt and was playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, he was a UEFA Champions League regular with Greek giants Olympiacos, but his nasty habits made him a liability.Olunga at the double as Avire features in EgyptBack in 2020, Semedo was given a five-year suspended prison sentence and banned from visiting Spain until 2028. He was found guilty of several crimes when playing in Spain but has avoided immediate further jail term following a court hearing. The footballer had previously spent five months in prison in Spain with multiple charges for offences including robbery, assault, kidnapping and possession of a firearm, but he paid the $30,000 bail conditions to continue his football career. Only last year, he was arrested after an underage Greek girl accused him and a 40-year-old Nigerian man of raping her. He denied the accusations, admitted he had sexual intercourse with the girl with her consent and he said he did not know her age##NAJAVA_MECA_6541364##In February 2018, Semedo was detained for supposedly tying up and assaulting a man in his home alongside two others, then proceeding to go to the victim’s house to rob the property. The complainant alleges that he was locked in a room after being immobilised while the accused stole his keys, broke into his apartment and carried out large-scale theft, with gunshots also said to be involved to intimidate the individual.#AlDuhail contracts with Semedo https://t.co/Oc4mFDdAsq pic.twitter.com/rIoUbcGSg3— نادي الدحيل ALDUHAIL (@DuhailSC) August 1, 2022 Semedo’s run-in with the law made headlines in Spain prior to that when he allegedly carried a firearm at a nightclub in Valencia in November 2017 and smashed a man over the head with a glass bottle in separate incidents. The list of Semedo’s offences runs long, but at hopefully, he’ll dedicate himself to football alone and help Olunga’s team solid at the back. Hernan Crespo’s team will start their season on Wednesday with a home match with Al Wakra.
