Depleted Wazito and Murang’a Seal duel in first leg of top-flight clinching playoff

Straggling FKF Premier League side Wazito FC are fighting for the top-flight lifeline when they host National Super League Side Murang’a Seal for the first leg of the FKF-PL/NSL playoff at the Thika Sub-County Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The top tier side will feature in the playoff after ending the 2021/22 season in 16th position while Murang’a finished third in the second tier. The match was initially penciled for Saturday at Nyayo Stadium but had to be put on hold due to a court order issued by the Sports Disputes Tribunal challenging the legality of the inclusion of Zoo FC in the second tier.##NAJAVA_MECA_6542022##On Tuesday, the SDT allowed to go on and the two teams now face off in a must win double-header. The second leg will be played in Murang’a on Sunday afternoon. The two teams met earlier in the season in a friendly match at the Marist University grounds where Wazito, then under Francis Kimanzi lost the match by a solitary goal. This will be the first competitive match between the two sides.Murang’a were unbeaten in their last five games before the season ended while Wazito ended the season with a 2-1 win over Posta Rangers in Thika.Wazito FC midfielder Brian Musa understands just how important the game is to the team.”It is a very important game for the team and we have to give our best. Murang’a is a good side as was evident when we played them before the 2021/22 season started. We have however prepared well for the game and we are going to give our best to get a positive result,” he said.We will be in Thika tomorrow for the playoff first leg clash against Murang’a Seal FC.Kick off time is 3pm#Wazito4life pic.twitter.com/0OEysZpDec— Wazito Football Club (@wazitofc) August 3, 2022 Murang’a coach Vincent Nyaberi is confident heading to the game.“I know it won’t be an easy match but we are not afraid because we met them (Wazito) in a friendly before the start of last season and did outstandingly well. Matching them in that tie is motivation enough ahead of the clash. The fact that we will be starting away from home also gives us an advantage and we will do everything not to lose the first leg of the tie. That would give us an edge when we host the second leg,” he said.
