West Ham activate the buyout clause for Cornet, Hammers to exceed the 100m euros mark

Since they were not sure where the whole Filip Kostic saga will lead them – the Hammers management decided to play it safe and activated the buyout clause for Maxwell Cornet in the amount of 21 million euros.Although it is a higher sum of money than what was offered for Kostic, West Ham decided to sign the Ivory Coast international who already has one season in the Premier League under his belt and despite his Burnley side being relegated, he has been one of the bright spots of a quite bleak season for the Turf Moor club. According to Sky Sport, Cornet will arrive in London by Thursday evening at the latest, where he will undergo medical checks the very next day and pick up the Hammers shirt soon after.Cornet will become West Ham’s fourth signing this summer, i.e. the fifth official purchase, bringing the club well over the 100 million euro mark! A reminder, West Ham allocated almost 40 million euros for Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo; before that 35 million euros were paid for Rennais stopper Nayef Aguerd, 11 million euros for Swansea central midfielder Flynn Downes, while for a little more than 9 million euros they bought goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from PSG. With Cornet, David Moyes will spend more than 110 million euros on new signings! On the other hand, the club did not sell a single player, as Arthur Masuaku, Ryan Fredericks and Andriy Yarmolenko left without compensation…In his debut season at Burnley and in the Premier League, Cornet played in almost all areas of the pitch. All over the left side, even the right side in the midfield, even as a striker! He scored nine goals with two assists and attracted the attention of other clubs, especially since Burnley were relegated to the Championship. As his buyout clause is relatively acceptable, West Ham decided to give up on Kostic and complete the deal with the African.Kostic recently put West Ham on hold after Juventus contacted the Serbian again with the desire to bring him. Eintracht initially turned down 15 million euros from London and asked for 20 million, and just when it looked like that wish would be granted, the Old Lady appeared and muddied the waters.
