Knockout artist Vergil Ortiz, Jr. (18-0, 18 KOs) of Grand Prairie, Texas defends his WBO International welterweight title against undefeated Top 10 contender Michael McKinson (22-0, 2 KOs) of Portsmouth, Great Britain at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, August 6. Ahead of the event the fighters hosted a final pre-fight press conference. It was announced that their scheduled for twelve rounds bout live on DAZN would serve as the WBA world title eliminator. The date when the showdown airs live in the UK and Australia is Sunday, August 7.
The press conference also featured several other fighters battling it out on the card, including the unified WBC and WBA flyweight champion Marlen Esparza (12-1, 1 KOs) and her mandatory challenger of Maracay, Venezuela Eva Guzman (19-1, 11 KOs). As well, local fan-favorite Maurice Hooker (27-2-3, 18 KOs) and Philadelphia’s Blair Cobbs (15-1-1, 10 KOs), and Indio, California’s Bektemir Melikuziev (9-1, 7 KOs) and his opponent Sladan Janjanin (32-10, 24 KOs).
