AFC Leopards turn to fledglings as FIFA ban bites

AFC Leopards will elevate a maximum of four players from their youth team to boost its squad ahead of the 2022/23 FKF Premier League campaign, assistant coach Tom Juma has revealed.Ingwe are currently banned from signing players by FIFA after they failed to pay their former captain Soter Kayumba and contravened FIFA directive by signing and registering players in February against the wishes of the world football governing body. The club will not be in a position to recruit players for the next two windows. The youth team, famed for producing the likes of Vincent Oburu (Zesco, Zambia), Richard Odada (Philadelphia Union, US), and Austin Odhiambo (Gor Mahia) among others has come to the rescue of the team in recent years after Ingwe found themselves on the wrong side of the law for unprocedural termination of contracts.Juma has now revealed that they will have to work with more players from the youth setup with a maximum of four set to link up with the Patrick Aussems-led outfit.“Since we were banned from signing we will definitely turn to promoting a few of the youth team players, say three or four players,” he told Citizen.Despite not being in a position to beef up the squad with quality experienced players as they would have wished, Juma is looking forward to a successful campaign at the den.Kenyan midfielder in Sweden for trials“We are looking forward to a good season, a good team and a good style of football that will definitely entertain both our fans and the rest of the Ingwe family,” he added.
