It’s funny how life works. It can get you in previously unthinkable situations. And for any Liverpool fan, pulling on the blue shirt of city rivals Everton is about as inconceivable as it gets. However, it does happen now and again. The latest guy to find himself in this situation is Conor Coady.Everton announced the signing of former Liverpool youngster Coady on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 29-year-old centre-back is Frank Lampard’s fourth signing of this transfer window after fellow defender James Tarkowski, former Wolves teammate Ruben Vinagre and forward Dwight McNeil all arrived in the blue half of Liverpool.”It’s incredible to join Everton. As soon as I heard the interest, from Lampard and Everton, I really wanted to be part of it straight away. I’m over the moon to join. I’ve grown up around the city, I know this club, how big it is and what it means to the supporters. I’m someone who was desperate to come here, to play for this club. I’ve got family and friends who are massive Evertonians. I’m here to give absolutely everything I’ve got for this football club. It’s important I work as hard as I can to help my teammates, help the club move forward and make people proud.”🗣️ “I was desperate to play for this club!” New Everton signing Conor Coady says he’s ‘over the moon’ to be joining Frank Lampard’s side. 🔵⤵️ #EFC[🎥: @Everton]pic.twitter.com/FZk0UJnMPl— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) August 8, 2022 Coady scored the winner against Everton last season for Bruno Lage’s men, and back in 2019, he openly stated his allegiance to the Reds.”Everybody knows I supported Liverpool growing up, but I’m playing for Wolves now, I look at Liverpool’s results and hope they win games – it’s as simple as that. But I play for Wolves now and I play for this football club no matter who we are playing against. We’re going there to win and that’s the mentality we’ll all have.”As we’ve already said, life works in funny and strange ways.##NAJAVA_MECA_6557526##Everton’s latest recruit came through the Liverpool youth ranks and captained their reserve and Under-21 sides before making his full debut in a 1-0 Europa League Group Stage win over Anzhi Makhachkala. He left the Reds in 2013 in search of more game time, looking further down the leagues to Sheffield United before completing a permanent move to Huddersfield.A season with the Terriers attracted the attention of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who signed him for $3 million in 2015. It was to prove a fantastic move as Coady grew to become the club captain who led the Wolves to promotion. Under Nuno Espirito Santo, the Midlands club qualified for European competition and reached the UEFA Europa League quarter-final in 2019/20.Everton sign Conor Coady. Here he is playing for Liverpool. He played 196 out of a possible 198 league games over the previous five seasons, making him one of the fittest and most disciplined players in the league. With qualities like those, maybe Everton fans would forgive him for being a young Red. Everton boss Frank Lampard already has.”We are delighted to bring a player of Conor’s quality and vast experience to Everton, and he fits into how we want to play as a team. As well as being one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders and an England international, his leadership skills will also be of huge benefit to us.”
